If you have received a penalty that you consider unjustified, you can appeal. Contact ASFINAG Customer Service in writing at Rotenturmstraße 5-9, 1010 Vienna. Include your number plate, the date of the alleged violation and a justification. The deadline for appeals is generally 4 weeks from the date the penalty notice is served.
The vignette requirement applies to the entire Austrian motorway and expressway network. This covers routes in all nine federal states: Vienna, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Styria, Carinthia, Salzburg, Tyrol, Vorarlberg and Burgenland.
