Step-by-Step Guide
Choose vignette type
Decide on the appropriate vignette type based on your trip duration: 10-day, 2-month or annual vignette. Also consider whether you will be using special toll sections.
Prepare vehicle details
Have your vehicle number plate ready. For foreign number plates: make sure you know the complete number plate, including the country code.
Choose purchase channel
Choose between online purchase (recommended) or in-person purchase. Online purchases are faster and more convenient – the vignette is valid immediately after purchase.
Complete online purchase
Visit asfinag.at or an authorised retailer. Enter your number plate, select the vignette type and pay by credit card or other accepted payment methods.
Receive confirmation
After purchase you will receive a confirmation email. Keep this – it serves as proof of your vignette. Registration in the ASFINAG system is automatic.
Check validity
Check the validity of your vignette on the ASFINAG website. Enter your number plate and check that the vignette is correctly registered.
Start your journey
Your vignette is valid immediately. You can now use all toll motorways and expressways in Austria. Remember special toll sections that must be paid separately.
When changing number plates
If you change your number plate, you must have the vignette transferred. This is free of charge via the ASFINAG website. Complete the transfer before travelling.

Common Problems and Solutions
Vignette not in system
Wait 15-30 minutes after purchase. If the vignette still does not appear, contact ASFINAG customer service.
Wrong number plate entered
Contact customer service immediately. A correction is usually possible if the vignette has not yet been used.
Payment failed
Try a different payment method or purchase the vignette in person at a petrol station.
Vignette expired
Purchase a new vignette immediately before using the motorway. An expired vignette is not valid toll payment.
